All teachers hold either Master's or Ph.D. degrees, and have taught college, but choose to make a difference by inspiring high school students.

Educational Programs


Teachers and staff work with students to reach their individual educational potential. We teach our own patented, high-tech study and organizational techniques in all courses in order to ensure high school and future college success. When these unique, proven processing and retrieval learning techniques are used, it ultimately reduces student stress in studying and test taking.


* Average 4:1 Student to Teacher Ratio OR one-on-one courses
* Accelerate, Graduate Early, Do Two Years in One, or Re-Do Poor Grades
* Complete College-Prep Curriculum
* Earn Transferable College Credit While in High School- Student's final year can be a combination of high school and college-credit courses, without the student having to take any AP exams! For instance, we teach math through College Calculus 3, plus freshman-year Humanities courses
* Study Languages: Spanish, French and Italian
* "Reading the Classics" Course

Welcome to the Cortona Academy and TLC Tutoring, the ultimate private education on the East Coast, where parents, not administrators, choose the schedule, teachers, courses and class size best suited to their child's needs. The choice is yours.


Founded in 1992, Cortona Academy remains the only program of its kind to provide those in grades 8 through 12 a choice of group and one-on-one classes (our MAGIC) so that they may work with our professors for remediation or acceleration and enrichment. Thus, students may do two years in one, make-up for poor GPAs, and reach ultimate potential by being given the opportunity to work with some of the best teachers, scientists, engineers, writers, and computer scientists in the DC area, all within a structured, state-of-the-art learning environment.
